Hemifrån means Away From Home. The name fits the photos well—I started moving around young and took my first step towards an unsettled life when I moved to London where I got to know some people who were just like me. Well, I was young and naive and hungry for adventures, and these people had been on the road way longer.
But they all felt unadjusted just like me, they climbed rooftops in Hackney at 3 am, painted at 4 and told you stories at 6. They wanted to use you in their stories and I wanted to be a part of theirs.
I learned a lot from that time and because of it I am now built out of nostalgia. I have always felt like I don’t know where home is, but it is in the last year I’ve realized that my home is in pieces of all the people that I’ve met along the way.
And when you buy your first bed and discover that you relate to the floor better, then you know you’ve had adventures, and those adventures and that nostalgia will keep you up at night, only with a feeling that the people you’ve met along the way are doing and feeling the same thing and that you will without a doubt see most of them again.
So here is my first photo book, and even if you’re not among the ones in it, you’re still part of the feeling that I have every time I press that button.
Thank you for being that feeling and for letting me use you in my story.
Johanna.
